Lekythos with a sphinx, unknown Attic workshop. A small Attic red-figure lekythos with a vase shape. The neck is narrow, the belly round, mounted on a round foot. The central part of the front of the belly is decorated with an image of a sphinx; the back of the vessel has worn finials. 1st half of the 4th century BC, Attica. Ceramic vessel, height 9.4 cm, diameter 6 cm., A rounded ceramic vessel with a narrow neck and flared rim, featuring a single handle extending from the neck to the shoulder; the surface shows worn areas and flaking, revealing the underlying material. The main body displays a painted animal figure with a flowing mane and spotted body, rendered in a contrasting color against the darker background. The rim, handle, and base have chipped edges and patches where the top layer is missing. Visible colors include black, terracotta brown, and lighter beige tones where the surface has worn away.
