Lekythos with a sphinx. Small Attic red-figure lekythos with a vise. Narrow neck, round belly on a round foot. Central front of the belly decorated with an image of a sphinx; back of the vessel has worn finials. 1st half of the 4th century BC, Attica. Ceramic vessel Greek, height 9.4 cm, diameter 6 cm. Maker: unknown Attic workshop., A worn ceramic jug with a rounded body, narrow neck, flared rim, and a curved handle attached from neck to shoulder; the surface shows patches of black slip partly flaked away to reveal an underlying reddish-brown clay, with additional areas of lighter brown and pale weathered spots; a portion of the black decoration forms curved lines on one side, and the jug sits on a simple circular foot on a neutral light background.
