The central part of the front belly is decorated with an image of a sphinx; the back of the vessel has worn finials. 1st half of the 4th century BC, Attica. Ceramic vessel, height 9.4 cm, diameter 6 cm., A rounded ceramic vessel with a narrow neck and flared rim sits against a plain background. The vessel shows a worn black surface with areas where a tan clay color is exposed, forming a large painted figure wrapping around the body. The figure appears to have a curved body, a long tail, and a wing-like element rendered with fine black lines on the tan ground. The base and rim show chipped tan edges where the black slip has worn away. The overall visible colors are black and tan with spots of lighter wear.
