Wall painting. Tree and human figure in flames, Nubian workshop, wall paintings, tree iconographic. Yellow trunk, branches covered with dark green, brown, and red leaves and white round fruit. On one of the branches hangs a yellow vessel decorated with red stripes fragmentarily preserved. Under the tree are visible red flames, from which a yellow human head emerges. The painting was located immediately adjacent to the depiction of the anchorite Melas, painted on the left side of a composition showing Bishop Marianos with Christ and Hodegetria. Its fragmentary state of preservation does not allow for the unambiguous determination whether it belongs to a composition depicting the anchorite. ca. 1005–1036, Faras, wall painting. Dimensions: height 53 cm, width 40.3 cm, depth 3.1–3.5 cm; original plaster 47 x 35 cm., A fragment of a painted surface shows a stylized tree with a brown trunk and branches topped by a canopy dotted with pale circular shapes and small spots in red, dark brown, and green, set against a light beige background; below the tree, there is an area of reddish-brown ground with irregular pale patches and brushlike strokes suggesting vegetation in shades of red, beige, and brown, and the entire fragment sits on a surrounding matte beige mount.
