Red-figure askos, Attica, 5th–4th century BC. Vessel askos, height 7.0 cm, width 9.1 cm. Shallow, not very high reservoir with a bow-shaped handle, low cylindrical neck, and spout with outwardly turned edges; flat bottom. Decoration: covered with glossy black varnish; panther facing right with tail curled and paws tucked, and a fawn/goat facing left, running, painted on the shoulders. Thin red line 1–2 cm wide runs around the vessel at the edge of the arms and side walls. Inner rim surface covered with varnish. Technology: thick, high-quality glossy varnish; well-fired; visible traces of turning; cleaned clay free of admixtures. Condition notes: secondary chips on surface; fragment of rim missing; dirty bottom; visible remains of red sealing wax. Color of clay: 5 YR 6/6 reddish yellow. Color of varnish: 10 YR 2/1 black., A round, shallow ceramic object with a single central handle and a short spout is shown from above, featuring a predominantly black surface with worn areas revealing an orange-brown painted decoration; the decoration includes a pair of facing animal figures in orange-brown against the black background, and the rim and spout edges show small chips exposing lighter material.
