Aryballus lekythos, Ancient Greece, antiquity; Southern Italy, 4th century BC. Reddish-brown clay with black, slightly shiny, well-covering varnish also on underside of foot and inside handles. Low echinus-shaped foot; spherical, slightly flattened body; low narrow neck with funnel-shaped rim with thickened lip. Body decorated with a bird in left profile with beak raised. Lekythos/aryballus; ceramics, red-figure pottery, Greek pottery, ancient vessel. Height 9.3 cm, width 7.6 cm., A rounded ceramic vessel with a narrow neck, flaring rim, and single curved handle, shown against a plain gray background; the body is primarily a warm tan color with large areas of black decoration and blackened sections on the neck, rim, handle, and base, and there are a few dotted decorative elements and swirling black painted motifs on the tan surface.
