Aryballus lekythos, Ancient Greece, antiquity. Bird iconography. Ceramics; red-figure pottery; Greek pottery; ancient vessel; lekythos; Southern Italy. Reddish-brown clay with black, slightly shiny, well-covering varnish, also on the underside of the foot and inside the handles. Low echinus-shaped foot; spherical, slightly flattened body. Low, narrow neck with a funnel-shaped rim with a thickened lip. Body decoration: bird in left profile with beak raised. 4th century BC. Aryballus lekythos vessel. Height 9.3 cm; width 7.6 cm., A rounded ceramic vessel with a narrow flared neck sits against a plain gray background, showing a palette of black and tan with areas of lighter brown wear; the neck is primarily black with vertical tan stripes, the bulbous body features sweeping black painted motifs and dotted patterns on a tan field, and the base is dark with signs of surface aging and small patches where the black paint has worn away.
