Reddish-brown clay with black, slightly shiny, well-covering varnish, also on underside of foot and inside handles. Low echinus-shaped foot, spherical, slightly flattened body. Low, narrow neck with funnel-shaped rim with a thickened edge. Body decoration: bird in left profile with beak raised. 4th century BC Southern Italy. Vessel aryballus lekythos. Height 9.3 cm; width 7.6 cm., A rounded ceramic vessel with a narrow neck, flared rim, and a single curved handle, shown against a plain gray background; the vessel's surface shows a dominant black color with areas of tan and beige where the black finish is worn or intentionally left unpainted, and there are scattered lighter patches and irregular spots on the body; the neck features vertical tan stripes, and the rim and base show worn black with tan edges.
