Kantharos, unknown Boeotian workshop. Physical description: Thin-walled kantharos with straight, slightly flared rim edges, a deep cylindrical bowl with an outer edge. The bowl is set on a high leg with a torus in the middle, flat foot. Band-like, wide handles with slightly raised edges, protruding above the level of the rim. The outer surface of the foot is slightly concave. Decoration: Vessel entirely covered with black varnish. Technology: Matte varnish, good quality, evenly distributed. Traces of turning visible under the varnish. Notes: Numerous secondary losses visible on the surface. Attributed to Kamila Nocon; 2nd half of the 5th century BC, Boeotia. Type: kantharos. Weight: 0.552 kg., A dark vessel with a footed base and a wide bowl rising to a flared rim, featuring a pair of high curved handles that extend from the rim down to the lower bowl; the surface shows small worn spots and areas of lighter wear. The predominant color is a deep blackish-brown with patches of lighter brown and ochre where the finish is worn, set against a neutral gray background.
