Column krater with lid, unknown Attic workshop. Black-figure krater with lid. Red clay, tinted with ochre. Black firnis with a muted lustre, fading to brown in places. The rim of the vessel is decorated with a radial ornament and a schematic ivy sprig. On the shoulders are a series of vertical lines. The belly is decorated with figural scenes. On side A, Dionysus with a cornucopia is shown, accompanied by a satyr and a maenad. On side B an archer is depicted between two helmeted hoplites with round shields. A lid with a pomegranate-shaped handle, decorated with an ivy sprig on the rim. 520–510 BC, Attica. Vessel column krater. Weight 1.382 kg; diameter 19.2 cm 22.5 cm with vices; height 21.4 cm 22.6 cm with vices., An earthenware vessel with a lid and a knobbed finial sits against a plain light gray background; the vessel is primarily terracotta with worn black painted areas forming decorative bands and figural shapes, and there are also areas of faded reddish and brown hues, a pair of vertical handles extends from the rim to the shoulder, and the body tapers down to a rounded foot showing similar terracotta, black, and brown coloration.
