Fragment of a necklace, unknown northern Mesopotamian workshop, jewellery, Early Jazira III / Early Dynastic III period ca. 2600–2350 BC, composed of four shells: one Muricidae shell and three striped Engina mendicaria Bucinidae shells, with the lower whorl surfaces ground opposite the hole to create a stringing hole; decoration; Al-Jazira northern Mesopotamia, Khabur basin, Tell Rad Shakra northeastern Syria, excavated., A group of weathered, hollow shells with rough, pitted surfaces floating against a solid gray background; the shells are mostly off-white and beige with patches of light brown and darker brown in the pits and cavities, each shell showing irregular holes and eroded edges, some with conical projections and spiral ridges, and a few with rounded openings revealing interior hollows.
