Head of a Dionysus figurine, unknown Tarentine workshop, Dionysus mythology, wreaths, Greek deities, 5th–4th century BC previously dated to 2nd half of the 5th century BC, Tarentum, Southern Italy Italy; sculpture; height 12.9 cm, width 7 cm, depth 6 cm, weight 0.18 kg., A sculpted head in a reddish-brown terracotta tone is shown in profile against a smooth gray background; the figure wears a tall, pointed helmet with a decorative crest and a small fan-shaped ornament at the temple, and the face displays a calm expression with a defined nose, lips, and curly hair around the forehead, while the neck and lower edge of the bust show rough, broken edges and the surface has patches of lighter and darker wear in shades of beige and pale gray.
