Vessel with hieratic inscription; ceramics, Egyptian clay Nile clay NB2, Vienna System. Conical vessel tapering towards the bottom, irregular, widest approx. 3/4 of the height. Narrow, slightly sloping shoulders; short, wide neck; very gently rounded, slightly flaring rim; pointed bottom. Handcrafted; upper part shoulders, neck, rim turned. Surface leveled. Remains of a hieratic inscription in black on lower part of the belly. Quite well preserved with slight damage to the rim. Old Kingdom, ca. 2686–2181 BC. Height 15.2 cm; rim diameter 5.1 cm; belly diameter 8.3 cm. Comparable typologies: Petrie Dendera, Abydos, Hope Akhmim, Reisner Mycerinus, Naga ed-Der, Brunton Qau and Badari, Mace Naga ed-Der II, Keiser et al., A single, tall clay vessel with a rounded shoulder and a narrowed neck tapering to a small flared rim is shown against a plain gray background; the vessel surface is rough and pitted with visible texture and small indentations, and its color is mostly earthy brown with patches of darker brown and subtle areas of reddish-brown and muted gray.
