Vessel with hieratic inscription, Egyptian pottery ceramic, conical clay vessel tapering to a pointed bottom; narrow sloping shoulders, short wide neck, outward rounded rim slightly widening. Handcrafted with the upper part shoulders, neck, rim turned. Smooth exterior probably covered with engobe. Made of Nile clay NB2 Vienna System. Remains of a hieratic inscription in black on lower belly. Fairly well preserved with a damaged rim. Old Kingdom, ca. 2686–2181 BC earlier comparisons place similar forms in 4th–5th Dynasty. Height 14.9 cm; rim diameter 5.5 cm; belly diameter 8.9 cm. Analogies: Petrie Dendera, Abydos, Hope Akhmim, Reisner Mycerinus, Naga ed-Der, Brunton Qau and Badari, Mace Naga ed-Der II, Keiser, Avila, Dreyer, Jaritz, Laskowska-Kusztal MDAIK 40., A round, weathered clay vessel viewed from above with a wide, dark interior opening; the vessel surface shows a rough, uneven texture with small pits and scratches and displays shades of brown and tan, while the background is a flat medium gray.
