Vessel with hieratic inscription, Egyptian pottery conical clay vessel tapering toward the bottom, slightly irregular, widest at approx. 3/4 of the height. Narrow, sloping shoulders; short, wide neck; very gently rounded, widening rim; pointed bottom. Handcrafted: upper part shoulders, neck, rim turned. Around half the height a trace of joining of two separately made parts. Surface leveled, outer probably covered with a layer of engobe. Made of Nile clay Vienna System NB. Remains of a hieratic inscription in black on the lower part of the belly. Rim damaged. Analogies: parallels cited to examples illustrated by Petrie Dendera, Abydos, Hope Akhmim, Reisner Mycerinus; Naga ed-Der, Brunton Qau and Badari, Mace Naga ed-Der II, Keiser/Avila/Dreyer/Jaritz/Laskowska-Kusztal MDAIK 40 fig.9b. Dated to the Old Kingdom, ca. 2686–2181 BC. Findspot: Edfu. Dimensions: height 13.2 cm; rim diameter 5.8 cm; body diameter 8.3 cm., A roughly oval-shaped pottery vessel with a narrow neck and rounded shoulder, exhibiting a coarse, textured surface with small pits and irregularities; the body is primarily light brown with variations of tan and beige, and there are traces of darker brown spots and tiny flecks; the rim appears slightly chipped in places and the vessel tapers toward a pointed base; the background is a uniform light gray.
