Vessel, Egyptian pottery vessel, clay, ca. 2686–ca. 2181 BC Old Kingdom, from Edfu. Almost spherical, slightly horizontally stretched shape, widest about half the height; broad, sloping shoulders, very short neck. Rounded rim, oval in cross-section, slightly flaring; rounded bottom. Horizontal cord impressions at the widest point. Made on a wheel; approximately half the height was worked with a knife or similar tool. NB2 clay Vienna System with significant organic admixture. Smooth surface. Beige color. Very well preserved. Height 28.5 cm; rim diameter 10.4 cm; body diameter 30.4 cm., A large rounded clay vessel occupies the center of the image, showing a matte, slightly rough surface in shades of terracotta, light brown, and muted peach with subtle patches of pale gray and faint pink. The vessel has a narrow, short neck with a small rim that is a slightly darker brown, and the body displays small dark flecks and irregular speckles across its surface as well as faint scratches and textured marks. The background is a smooth, uniform gray that contrasts with the warm tones of the vessel.
