Vessel, Egyptian pottery, handmade clay vessel; almost cylindrical, widest just below a straight, tapering rim; rounded bottom; slightly marked, irregular, very narrow, sloping shoulders. Made of Nile clay with numerous organic inclusions and limestone particles; surface uneven, better worked in upper part, with many uneven depressions especially at the bottom. Color brown. Fairly well preserved; surface cracks attributed to careless craftsmanship in kneading and firing. Old Kingdom, ca. 2686–2181 BC; from Edfu. Height 36.5 cm; rim diameter 11.5 cm; body diameter 13.2 cm., A roughly spherical, textured object with a rough, cracked surface occupies the center against a plain gray background; the object shows a mix of brown and tan tones with small areas of darker brown and faint reddish patches, and its surface has irregular pits, crevices, and crumbly areas giving it an earthy, porous appearance.
