Vessel, Egyptian pottery vessel with a conical belly widest in its upper part approx. 4/5 of the height. Rounded bottom. Irregularly marked shoulders—clearly sloping on one side, short and almost horizontal on the opposite. Straight, slightly tapering rim. Hand-made of not well-worked Nile clay with numerous organic inclusions and limestone particles visible on the surface. Uneven, brown surface with numerous depressions and cracks resulting from poor clay kneading. Ca. 2686–2181 BC Old Kingdom, from Edfu; height 38 cm, diameter 11.7 cm rim, diameter 15.7 cm body., A roughly elongated, irregularly shaped object resembling a weathered stone or clay form fills the image against a plain light gray background; its surface is textured with cracks, pits, and rough patches, showing uneven contours and faint depressions that suggest subtle facial-like features, with a rounded top tapering to a narrower bottom. The visible colors are mainly beige and tan with areas of light brown and small hints of reddish tones, and there are darker grayish spots and shadowed crevices accentuating the surface irregularities. The object appears solid with an overall matte, gritty texture and varied surface depth, and it occupies most of the vertical space in the frame.
