Bowl, Egyptian pottery, clay vessel; large conical vessel with widest point about 4/5 of the height, walls narrowing toward center. Rounded bottom; straight slightly tapering spout. Just below the rim two parallel horizontal shallow lines. Made of Nile clay NB2 Vienna System. Surface leveled and covered with a layer of red engobe; dark red color. Reconstructed from original fragments with losses, including significant rim fragments filled in with plaster. Dating: end of 4th Dynasty / beginning of 5th Dynasty c. 2686–c. 2181 BC, Old Kingdom, from Edfu. Height 21.4 cm; diameter: rim 28.5 cm, shoulders 30.5 cm. References: F. Petrie; A. Fakhry., A large rounded clay vessel with a wide open top and a bulbous, tapered body is centered against a smooth light gray background; the vessel surface shows a weathered, earthy reddish-brown color with areas of lighter tan and darker brown patches, faint surface scratches and small pitting, and subtle variations in texture and sheen across its curved form.
