Vessel with hieratic inscription. Clay vessel, hand-made and turned in the upper part neck, spout. Conical shape tapering toward a pointed bottom; irregular, widest at approximately 3/4 of the height. Narrow, slightly sloping shoulders; short, wide neck; rounded, slightly flaring spout. Smooth surface; light red color. Made of Nile clay NB2 Vienna System. Remains of a hieratic inscription in black on the lower part of the belly. Rim slightly damaged; otherwise quite well preserved. Old Kingdom, Edfu. Height 15.7 cm; rim diameter 5.7 cm; belly diameter 8.5 cm. Comparative parallels cited; earlier comparisons date similar types to ca. 2686–2181 BC 4th–5th Dynasty., A round, dome-shaped object with an uneven, textured surface in shades of brown and tan sits against a solid light gray background; the object shows areas of darker brown and subtle reddish-brown variations, small pits and rough patches, and a few darker speckles and smudges.
