Vessel with hieratic inscription. Conical clay vessel tapering toward the bottom, irregular, widest at approx. 3/4 of the height. Narrow, slightly sloping shoulders; short, wide neck; very gently rounded, slightly flaring rim; pointed bottom. Handcrafted; upper part shoulders, neck, rim turned. Smooth surface, externally probably covered with a layer of engobe. Made of Nile clay NB2 Vienna System. Remains of a hieratic inscription in black in the lower part of the belly. Complete, well preserved. Old Kingdom, ca. 2686–2181 BC. Height 12.9 cm; rim diameter 5.5 cm; body diameter 7.8 cm. Comparative parallels noted in published Old Kingdom pottery studies., A weathered, bulbous ceramic vessel suspended against a plain light gray background, showing a rough, textured surface in shades of beige, tan, light brown, and hints of pink and ochre, with darker brown speckles and small pits; the rim is slightly thickened and rounded, the body tapers to a narrow, pointed base, and there are subtle variations in color and surface wear across the vessel.
