Vessel with hieratic inscription. Egyptian pottery, conical clay vessel tapering toward the bottom, irregular, widest at approx. 3/4 of the height. Narrow, slightly sloping shoulders; short, wide neck; very gently rounded, slightly flaring rim; pointed bottom. Handcrafted; upper part shoulders, neck, rim turned. Smooth surface, externally probably covered with a layer of engobe. Made of Nile clay NB2 Vienna System. In the lower part of the belly are remains of a hieratic inscription in black nbs. The vessel is complete, well preserved. Old Kingdom, ca. 2686–ca. 2181 BC, from Edfu. Dimensions: height 12.9 cm; rim diameter 5.5 cm; body diameter 7.8 cm. Comparative parallels cited Petrie, Dendera; Hope, Akhmim; Reisner; Brunton; Mace; Petrie, Abydos; Keiser et al.., An upright, rounded clay vessel with a narrow neck and flared rim sits against a plain gray background; the surface of the vessel shows a rough, weathered texture with patches of muted beige, tan, brown, and hints of reddish tones, along with small darker flecks and areas of lighter wear, and the shape tapers to a pointed base with irregularities and pitting visible across the body.
