Vessel with hieratic inscription, Egyptian pottery. Conical clay vessel tapering towards the bottom, irregular, widest approx. 3/4 of the height. Narrow, sloping shoulders; short, wide neck; very gently rounded, slightly flaring rim; pointed bottom. Handmade, upper part neck and rim turned. Surface even, outer probably covered with a layer of engobe. Made of Nile clay NB2 Vienna System. In the central part of the belly there are remains of a hieratic inscription in black probably sht dwdw. The vessel is complete and well preserved; traces of salting on one side of the belly. Old Kingdom, Edfu. Height 16.1 cm, rim diameter 6.3 cm, body diameter 8.4 cm. Comparative parallels cited; earlier dated to the 4th–5th Dynasty; ca. 2686–2181 BC., A round, top-down view of a weathered clay vessel with a wide, dark opening at its center; the vessel shows a textured, rough surface in shades of brown and tan with small pits and variations, set against a flat gray background.
