Protoma; bull's head relief mask made in gold using repoussé, filigree, and granulation. Central nostril area features granulation and filigree; cheeks and top of head use filigree. Eyes, nostrils, and muzzle are repoussé and bordered with filigree. Small ears and horns are plastically modeled horns soldered on. Reverse closed with an undecorated gold sheet with an irregular hole in two-thirds of its height from removal of a fastening element. Ca. 1450–1100 BC Middle Elamite period, — alternative dating to Achaemenid period 600–539 BC has been proposed; arguments also presented for second half of 2nd millennium BC. Elam, Iran. Decoration. Height 9.5 cm; width 7.8 cm; depth 2.5 cm; weight 48 g., A gold-colored decorative mask shaped like an animal head with two curved horns, a textured surface made of many small circular elements, prominent eye areas with raised almond-shaped surrounds, a long tapered snout with rounded nostril shapes, and small ear-like projections on either side, shown against a solid gray background.
