Protoma; bull's head relief mask in gold, made using repoussé with granulation and filigree. Central part with nostrils features granulation and filigree; cheeks and top of head feature filigree only. Eyes, nostrils, and muzzle are repoussé and bordered with filigree. Small ears and horns are plastically modeled horns soldered on. Reverse closed with an undecorated gold sheet with an irregular hole in about 2/3 of its height from removal of a fastening element. Materials/technique: goldsmithing. Culture/style: Elamite Iranian art. Date: ca. 1450–ca. 1100 BC, Middle Elamite period, — alternate datings include Achaemenid period 600–539 BC and arguments for second half of the 2nd millennium BC. Place of origin: Elam/Iran . Function: protoma decorative/attachment. Dimensions: height 9.5 cm, width 7.8 cm, depth 2.5 cm; weight 48 g., An object with a large irregularly shaped metallic surface that appears crumpled and worn, showing a tarnished golden color with areas of darker brown and subtle greenish patina; a central circular hole punctures the surface; a pair of curved tubular extensions rise from the top, covered in a textured mesh and showing golden and grayish tones; a few ornate ear-like protrusions near the base of the tubes feature textured decorative elements in a golden color; the background is a flat medium gray.
