Awl made of unworked animal bone with a sharpened end for piercing materials fabrics or leather; ca. 2600–2350 BC, Early Jazira III / Early Dynastic III period; Tell Abu Hafur northeastern Syria, Northern Mesopotamia Khabur basin; tool; height 9.3 cm, width 2.9 cm, diameter 0.2–0.5 cm pointed working end, weight 8 g., A single elongated object resembling a bone with a tapered pointed end is shown against a solid dark gray background; the object displays a range of colors including beige, tan, off-white, light brown, darker brown, and patches of grayish-black, with a porous textured surface in places, smoother areas elsewhere, some irregular bumps and ridges along its length, and a small sharper tip that is slightly more yellowish.
