Awl, An awl made of unworked animal bone with a sharpened end used for piercing materials fabrics or leather. Early Jazira III period ca. 2600–ca. 2350 BC; Early Dynastic III period. Tell Abu Hafur northeastern Syria; Northern Mesopotamia, Khabur basin, Al-Jazira. Tool. Height 9.3 cm; width 2.9 cm; diameter of pointed working end 0.2–0.5 cm; weight 8 g., A long, tapered object with a rounded, bulbous end and a pointed tip, shown against a solid gray background; the surface of the object appears rough and textured with irregularities and small pits; colors visible include various shades of brown, tan, beige, and small areas of darker brown and gray; the overall shape narrows from the thicker end toward the thin tip and the surface shows uneven coloration and a few darker spots.
