Plate, unknown Aswan workshop; flat plate on a low, ring-shaped foot. Rim poorly defined, rounded at the top with a vertical, slightly concave outer wall. Surfaces covered with red engobe and polished. Decoration executed by engraving and imprinting: three concentric grooves on the inner bottom, a roulette motif between the two outer grooves, and a central stamped cross in the form of a crux gemmata. Made of pink kaolin clay. 6th–7th century. Find location: Edfu. Vessel plate. Height 5.0–5.3 cm; diameter 26.8 cm rim, 13.7 cm bottom. Materials/technique: plates, Aswan pottery, Egyptian pottery, Egyptian sigillata, tableware, Coptic vessels, stamp impressions, stamped decoration, roulette decoration, kaolin clay., A round shallow dish with a worn terracotta surface sits against a smooth muted gray background; the dish shows circular ridges and areas of surface wear with a few lighter patches and subtle variations in reddish-brown and pale beige tones.
