Megarian bowl, KIPBEI workshop, 2nd half of the 2nd century BC, Smyrna, vessel, Megarian bowl, weight 0.120 kg, A domed ceramic object sits against a plain gray backdrop, showing a textured surface with ornate raised decorations; the top has a radial floral or sunburst pattern with elongated petal-like elements, and the midband features a continuous frieze of flowing, scroll-like and stylized animal or bird figures in relief. The object displays a worn, earthy color palette with dominant dark brown to black areas and contrasting terracotta and rusty orange highlights where the raised decoration and edges show through; there are patches of lighter beige and pale wear on the surface. The base edge is slightly flared and shows surface abrasion and small chips, and the piece rests on a clear support that is partially visible beneath it.
