Vessel for oils and ointments, clay; Early Dynastic III period ca. 2600–ca. 2350 BC. Al-Jazira Syria/Iraq, Mesopotamia. Globular vessel with a spherical belly that at 3/4 height merges into short, sloping shoulders with a narrow, slightly flared neck; part of the neck and spout is missing. c. 2600–c. 2350 BC; Northern Mesopotamia Khabur basin, Tell Jassa el Gharbi north-eastern Syria. Vessel; height 13 cm, width 10.9 cm., A round, weathered clay vessel with a rough, cracked surface sits against a plain gray background; the vessel is primarily beige with patches of light tan and pale brown, showing mottled discoloration and darker brown speckles; the top is broken and irregular with a jagged rim, and a large triangular hole and several fractures run down one side revealing a dark interior; the surface texture appears gritty with worn spots and subtle variations in tone.
