Globular vessel, unknown Northern Mesopotamian workshop, Early Jazira III period ca. 2600–ca. 2350 BC. A globular vessel whose body rises about 3/4 of its height into sloping arms, from which emerges a low, narrow neck terminating in a thickened, flared rim. The transition from body to arms is emphasized by a shallow, wide horizontal groove. Vessels for oils and ointments; vice-free vessel. Al-Jazira Northern Mesopotamia; Khabur basin, Tell Jassa el Gharbi Northeastern Syria. Early Dynastic III period ca. 2600–ca. 2350 BC. Vessel; height 10 cm, width 9.7 cm., A rounded earthen vessel with a narrow neck and flared rim is centered against a solid background. The surface of the vessel is textured and weathered with areas of roughness and small chips. The vessel shows an overall light tan to beige coloration with patches of darker brown and gray mottling, and subtle variations in hue across its body. The rim appears slightly uneven and worn, and the body has a few shallow depressions and irregularities in the clay. The background is a muted blue-gray color.
