Awl, Awl made from a cut triangular, flat fragment of animal bone; the elongated, sharpened end is polished from use piercing fabrics or leather. Early Jazira III period / Early Dynastic III period, c. 2600–c. 2350 BC. Provenance: Tell Abu Hafur northeastern Syria, Al-Jazira region northern Mesopotamia, Khabur basin. Tool. Height 7.4 cm; width 2.5 cm; diameter of pointed working end 0.4–0.7 cm., A long, narrow carved object with a tapered pointed end and a rougher, thicker opposite end rests against a plain gray background; the object has a light tan to beige color with areas of darker brown texture and some smoother, slightly glossy surfaces, and there is a small amount of red and black visible along one edge.
