Skyphos mug with depictions of ducks. Late Geometric period, ca. 725β700 BC. Attributed to Attica. Ceramic skyphos with profiled belly; height 9.0 cm, width 19.6 cm, depth 15 cm, weight 0.352 kg. Just below the rim are two painted bands with a delicate line. Metopes depict long-necked, long-legged ducks with stylized flowers before them; one bird image is very poorly preserved. Behind each bird's head is a swastika motif. Silhouette technique possibly used. Vices placed at the maximum width of the belly. Inner surface covered with matte, faded paint; a reserved line set a short distance from the bottom, which is undecorated. Technology: Visible traces of turning. Varnish worn away in places. Clay light yellow with numerous inclusions. Surface shows significant abrasions and chips. Condition/remarks: Spout damaged. Visible conservation additions old glue. Colors approximate: Black ~ 7.5 YT 2.5/1; Red ~ 10 R 4/4. Dating and attribution notes: 725β700 BC Late Geometric; assigned 9thβ8th century BC in some older literature., A shallow round ceramic bowl with two horizontal loop handles sits against a plain gray background; the bowl shows a warm beige base color with dark brown to black painted bands and decorative motifs, including several vertical striped panels and stylized bird figures in dark paint, along with dotted and zigzag patterns encircling the exterior; the interior appears dark brown, the rim shows areas of wear with lighter beige patches, and the handles have darkened tips.
