Skyphos mug with depictions of ducks. Late Geometric period, ca. 725–700 BC. Attributed to Attica. Skyphos with a profiled belly: just below the rim are two bands painted with a delicate line. Metopes depict ducks with long necks and legs, with stylized flowers in front; one bird image poorly preserved. Behind each bird's head is a swastika motif. Possibly silhouette technique. Vices placed at the maximum width of the belly. Inner surface covered with matte, faded paint; reserved line a short distance from the bottom; bottom undecorated. Technology: visible traces of turning. Varnish worn in places. Light yellow clay with many inclusions. Surface shows significant abrasions and chips. Condition: spout damaged; visible conservation additions old glue. Clay/paint colors: black ~7.5 YT 2.5/1; red ~10 R 4/4. Dimensions: height 9.0 cm, width 19.6 cm, depth 15 cm; weight 0.352 kg. The vessel is primarily tan with black painted decoration, including several horizontal bands and a band of black dots near the top, and additional black linear motifs and patterns around the body. A pair of short handles or strap-like protrusions is visible on the sides, painted with black accents. The interior appears dark brown to black, and the base shows darker blackened areas and patches of worn tan. The visible colors are tan, black, dark brown, and gray.
