Vessel, Amphora with an ovoid body that tapers towards the bottom; rounded bottom. The vessel is widest at approximately 3/4 of its height. Shoulders are wide and sloping. Neck is wide, profiled, ending in a widening rim, flat on top. Four small cylindrical lugs connect the neck to the shoulders. Decoration painted and impressed: a 2 cm wide painted band halfway up the body and the same band at the junction of body and shoulders. Shoulders feature a painted floral decoration — a plant tendril with tripartite leaves in a purple-brown color; decoration not very carefully executed. Imprinted string lines visible around halfway up and slightly below the shoulders. Clay color light beige. Vessel glued together from several original fragments with missing pieces filled in with plaster. Surface worn in places. Date: 332–30 BC, Ptolemaic Period. Place of origin: Edfu. Function: vessel. Dimensions: height 57.5 cm; rim diameter 20.4 cm; body diameter 36 cm., A large rounded clay vessel with an egglike upper body tapering to a narrower foot, showing a surface of reddish-brown and terracotta tones with areas of lighter beige and pale tan; the vessel has several horizontal darker bands in deep brown and charcoal around its mid and lower sections and a band of worn pale cream near the base; the lower portion displays a few dark brown brushstroke motifs and abstract shapes, and there are a few short curved handles or lugs at the base with the same reddish-brown and beige weathered finish; the background is a uniform light gray.
