Head of a Ptolemaic prince, Diadems; probable portrait of Ptolemy XV Caesarion ruler of Egypt; 47–30 BC; Ptolemaic period end of the reigns of Caesarion and Cleopatra, Egypt. Egyptian sculpture; sculpture in stone; height 19.3 cm, width 13 cm, depth 17 cm, weight 7.532 kg. Description: head of a man with short hair tied with a headband crossed at the nape of the neck and falling at the ends to the neck. Short, wide strands of hair protrude from under the headband onto the forehead. The face is small with regular features, a straight nose widening significantly downward, prominent lips, a clearly emphasized chin, large deep-set eyes, prominent eyebrows, small ears close-fitting to the head. The upper fragment of the pilaster is visible at the back, with the head resting on it. With underlay 20.5; date circa 44–30 BC., A side view of a sculpted head in dark stone showing a profile with a rounded skull, a defined ear, and a prominent nose and lips; the surface has a textured, pitted appearance with lighter speckles and patches of beige and gray on the predominantly dark brown and black stone; a band around the forehead and short carved hair-like ridges are visible, and the base of the sculpture shows rougher, lighter gray and white areas.
