Head of a Ptolemaic prince; diadem; probably Ptolemy XV Caesarion ruler of Egypt; 47–30 BC; Egyptian sculpture, Ptolemaic period end of the reigns of Caesarion and Cleopatra, 20.5, 44–30 BC; limestone, sculpture of a man with short hair tied with a headband crossed at the nape and falling at the ends to the neck. Short, wide strands of hair protrude from under the headband onto the forehead. Small face with regular features, straight nose widening downward, prominent lips, clearly emphasized chin, large deep-set eyes, prominent eyebrows, small ears close to the head. Upper fragment of a pilaster visible at the back, head resting on it. Height 19.3 cm; width 13 cm; depth 17 cm; weight 7.532 kg., The image shows the back of a sculpted head with a rough, pitted surface in dark gray and black tones with lighter gray and tan speckling; the form includes a rounded cranium, a defined nape, and a short, squared base that appears darker and slightly glossy, all set against a smooth, pale gray background.
