Mummy of Panepi in a cartonnage, doorkeeper of the temple of Amun Panepi, Panepi ca. 945–715 BC. Richly decorated cartonnage. The deceased's wig and mask are sculpturally detailed. On the chest is a necklace with a plant and geometric ornament. Below is a centrally located i3-w fetish mounted on a djed sign, behind which an inscription begins. On the sides of the fetish are winged goddesses Isis and Nephthys and the Horuses of Edfu. At the base of the fetish are depictions of Upwawet. Above the fetish is a ram-headed bird with outstretched wings Amun-Ra and Wadjet cobra, Osiris, and three Sons of Horus. The deceased's hands are not modeled. c. 825–715 BC; Third Intermediate Period, late 22nd–23rd Dynasty. Western Thebes. Sarcophagus, mummy, cartonnage. Height 170 cm; width 40 cm; depth 29 cm; weight 37.5 kg., The image shows a tall, narrow, full-length ancient coffin with a carved human face and wig, painted in muted greens, browns, reds, creams, and black; the face is reddish-brown with dark eyes and a greenish wig that frames it, and the chest area features a large stylized winged motif in green and cream with red accents; the body of the coffin is decorated with several horizontal bands of painted scenes and geometric patterns in green, red, brown, cream, and black, including multiple winged bird motifs and vertical columns of figures and symbols; the base and foot of the coffin are worn and show exposed brown wood beneath the polychrome paint.
