Mummy of Panepi in a cartonnage, doorkeeper of the temple of Amun Panepi; maker, Panepi ca. 945β715 BC. Richly decorated cartonnage: the deceased's wig and mask are sculpturally detailed. On the chest is a necklace with plant and geometric ornament. Below is a centrally located i3-w fetish mounted on a djed sign, behind which an inscription begins. On the sides of the fetish are winged goddesses Isis and Nephthys and the Horuses of Edfu. At the base of the fetish are depictions of Upuaut. Above the fetish is a ram-headed bird with outstretched wings Amun-Ra and Wadjet cobra, Osiris, and the three Sons of Horus. The deceased's hands are not modeled. Inscribed sacrificial formulas present; iconography includes falcons, djed pillars, necklace motif, and Taur fetish. Human remains. c. 825β715 BC; Third Intermediate Period, late 22ndβ23rd Dynasty; Western Thebes. Sarcophagus/mummy cartonnage. Height 170 cm; width 40 cm; depth 29 cm; weight 37.5 kg., A painted wooden sarcophagus lid with a stylized human face and headdress, showing a dark reddish-brown face with black hair-like area and greenish-blue hair paneling, a patterned band across the top in muted browns and greens, and an ornate broad collar painted with greens, reds, golds, and black. The central chest area displays a winged scarab motif in green and gold with red accents, flanked by checkerboard and feather patterns in green, red, gold, and black. Lower panels show seated and standing figures and decorative motifs in muted reds, greens, golds, browns, and black against a worn natural wood background with areas of turquoise-green patina.
