Large ovoid amphora with rounded foot, clay MD-type marl, Vienna System; body wheel-made, foot hand-made; surface even; color very light brown. Two small vertical handles placed at widest point near base of the sloping neck; neck and spout missing. Sloping handles symmetrically painted with black ink inscriptions labels/dockets. Above one handle, slightly toward center, are impressed cartouches of Hatshepsut and Thutmose III and a snake hieroglyph dz. Under one handle a potter’s mark of two intersecting lines. New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty reign of Hatshepsut and Thutmose III, ca. 1550–1295 BC; provenance: Deir el-Medina grave 1370 f. Preserved height 49.5 cm; belly diameter 30.5 cm. Analogies: amphora from the tomb of Hatnefer and Ramose with hieratic inscription dating to year 7 of the joint reign; R. Holthoer, New Kingdom pharaonic sites., A large, elongated clay vessel with a rounded top and tapered bottom is shown against a smooth background. The vessel has a single short handle attached near its upper center and a rough, matte surface texture with visible wear and small irregularities. The colors visible include beige, pale tan, off-white, a few muted brown patches, and a small area with a reddish tint. The background is a uniform cool gray.
