Sarcophagus mask with a small neck fragment, painted cream. Eyes highlighted with black paint. 332–30 BC; Ptolemaic Period, Egypt. Sarcophagus mask., A weathered mask-like face made of rough wood and worn pale plaster fills the frame against a gray background, showing a group of textured brown wooden areas where the material has exposed grain, surrounded by creamy off-white and beige plaster patches; dark black paint forms the outlines of large almond-shaped eyes and thicker dark brown to black markings accentuate parts of the brows and mouth, while various brown stains and scuffs create mottled darker areas on the cheeks and chin, and the lower edge tapers into a jagged darker brown wooden projection.
