Fragment of a sarcophagus lid. Part of the lid of an anthropoid woman's sarcophagus. Large, striped wig falling on the breasts at the front, decorated with four diadems of lotus petals and vulture wings, and bands of rosettes at the ends. On the breast is a multi-row necklace, with lotus flowers and rosettes forming the lower row. Lotuses, vulture vulture wings, element of the so-called vulture diadem, necklace, wigs, funerary equipment, lotus flower decorative motif. Egyptian art. c. 945–c. 735 BC; Third Intermediate Period, 22nd Dynasty, Egypt. Sarcophagus. Height 62 cm; width 49 cm; depth 20 cm., A carved wooden funerary panel shaped like a bust with a stylized head and shoulders, showing worn painted surface and areas of flaking and loss; the face has carved eyes, nose, and mouth with traces of darker pigment around the eyes and mouth, and the hair or headdress is rendered as a rounded, layered wig that extends down over the shoulders. The chest area is decorated with a wide, ornate collar composed of repeated geometric and feather-like motifs, with traces of painted bands and decorative borders; the surface shows small holes and indentations, and the edges are irregular and weathered. Visible colors include muted browns of the wood, faded reds, dull greens, pale blues, and traces of black and off-white pigment across the wig and collar, all set against a plain neutral gray background.
