Black-figure lekythos, unknown Attic workshop. Yellowish clay, matte firnia. Disc-shaped foot, ovoid body, slightly sloping arms, wide short neck, rim widening upward. Dark firnia on the rim, outer part of the neck, lower body, and foot. A wide black band below the figural decoration and a narrow black band at the transition from body to arms. Arms decorated with a series of lotus buds connected by intertwining lines; neck with a circular ornament of dots. Belly figural scene: a maenad in a chiton and cloak, dancing and facing right with her head turned back; her left arm raised upward and her right arm bent at the elbow hidden under her cloak. On either side are dancing satyrs facing right. Vine branches with grapes in the background. c. 500 BC, Attica., A round ceramic vessel viewed from above with a central cylindrical opening and a short neck, showing a handle attached to the side; the top surface has a decorative ring of leaf-shaped painted motifs around the neck. The colors visible are terracotta brown of the clay, dark black paint on the motifs and handle, a few areas of darker brown around the central opening, and a neutral gray background.
