Kylix gnathia, scene: gal/class, southern Italian pottery, plant motifs, end of 4th–beginning of 3rd century BC previously dated 3rd–2nd century BC, Southern Italy Italy; vessel kylix; height 6.3 cm, width 13.9 cm, depth 8.4 cm, weight 0.088 kg., A shallow bowl-shaped vessel with a rounded body and a low pedestal base, shown from the front with two horizontal handles extending outward and curving upward at each side; the vessel is predominantly black with a band of small light-colored leaf-like shapes encircling the upper exterior, and a thin light line beneath that band; the base area shows a narrow reddish-brown band above the foot which is also black; the surface has worn areas and small spots where the black coating is chipped, revealing lighter material beneath; the background is a smooth grey.
