Subject: sport in antiquity. Maker: Thalia Painter fl. 520–510 BC. Vessel, weight 1.030 kg., A fragmentary round ceramic vessel rim with black and terracotta colors shows a painted scene of three nude human figures around a central vessel, with two standing figures reaching toward it and one figure holding a staff; decorative palmette motifs in terracotta appear on either side against the black background, and the piece displays visible craquelure and repaired breaks, with the vessel handles partially visible at the lower edges in black.
