Corinthian-type helmet., Circa 600 BC formerly dated 630–600 BC. Possibly from Sparta or Mycenae according to Otto Schaubert. Bronze helmet with thicker walls in the cheekpieces and a significantly thickened nose plate; domed peak with slightly concave walls widening at the edge. Two small round holes near the back edge for attaching a cord and a similar hole in the peak. Edges of the helmet, cheekpieces, and eyeholes decorated with a precisely crafted band of ornament: rectangular fields framed by double engraved lines and separated by double engraved squares, with rows of tiny applied plastic spheres; an additional row of similar spheres between the top framing lines. Ornamentation reaches the base of the nose guard, which is decorated only with engraved lines echoing the shape of the plate. Function: weapon/helmet.
