Nearly horizontal handles flow into a slender neck ending in a markedly widening, cup-shaped rim. Handle attached at the transition from body to handles and below the cup-shaped rim. Body bears an incised ornament of long, vertically arranged petals. Good condition with minor varnish damage; neck cracked and repaired. 4th century BC, Attica., A dark ceramic jug with a rounded, ribbed body, a narrow neck that flares into a wide mouth, and a single curved handle attached between the neck and shoulder; the surface shows a few small worn spots and scuffs revealing a brownish underlayer, and the overall colors visible are black with touches of brown against a neutral gray background.
