Woman's sarcophagus mask. Mask of wood covered with a layer of canvas to which paint is applied. The face is wide, painted with yellow paint. Large, almond-shaped eyes, the pupils highlighted with black paint, arched eyebrows. Straight nose, flattened at the tip. The mouth and the protrusions of the chin are marked in red, as is the outline of the eye sockets above the eyes. Face height: 15 cm. 1st–2nd century; Roman period 4th century AD, Egypt. Sarcophagus mask; height 15 cm, width 14.3 cm, depth 8 cm, weight 0.454 kg., A painted mask-like face carved from a light brown material with visible texture and wear, showing a few areas of darker brown and beige; the eyes are heavily outlined in black with white triangular shapes inside and dark pupils, and there are thick black painted eyebrows and a dark black stripe extending from one eye; there are faint reddish-brown painted lines above the eyes and around the mouth, with a darker reddish-brown used on the lips; the nose and lower face show worn beige and tan tones, and the background is a uniform gray.
