Orientalising pyxis with an animal frieze in the Silhouette style, images of animals, Middle Corinthian period 590–570 BC, cats. Thin-walled pyxis with a straight rim, slightly concave body walls, and a flat bottom. Small vices mounted horizontally just near the edge of the rim. The main decorative band, bounded at the top and bottom by a thin line of varnish, depicts figures of animals executed using the silhouette technique. Between the silhouettes there are simplified filling ornaments. Clay color: 5 Y 8/2 pale yellow Varnish color: 5 Y 2.5/1 black Corinth, pyxis vessel. Height 5.3 cm, width 10.2 cm, depth 8.5 cm, weight 0.102 kg., A short, flared cylindrical ceramic vessel sits centered against a neutral gray background; its body is a warm tan with dark brown or black painted decorations that form bands around the top and bottom edges and a central frieze. The painted frieze shows stylized animal figures and abstract motifs rendered in the dark color, repeating around the vessel, and the top and bottom bands contain patterned rows of dots and triangular shapes. The surface shows slight irregularities and age-worn spots where the dark paint is faded against the tan clay. Colors visible include tan, dark brown or black, and shades of gray in the background.
