Banded decoration: upper band shows a row of birds ducks walking to the right in silhouette with heads lowered and wings raised, with dotted rosettes between pairs; lower band enclosed in two wide dark bands consisting of two stripes of watered varnish and a zigzag line. Greek, Boeotia; early 7th century BC. Pyxis container. Clay color: 10 YR 7/2–7/4; varnish color: 2.5 YR 2.5/1; red paint: 2.5 YR 6/3. Dimensions: depth 5.5 cm; diameter 7.3 cm; wall thickness 0.4 cm; height 6.5 cm; width 8.8 cm; weight 0.098 kg., A short cylindrical ceramic vessel sits centered against a plain gray background, showing a beige base color with bands of darker brown and black decoration. The rim is dark brown and slightly worn, and just below it are painted motifs including abstract bird-like shapes and clustered round dots in black. Midsection bands alternate between thin dark brown stripes and a broader beige band with a sinuous black wave pattern. The surface shows areas of wear and fine cracks, and the overall color palette includes beige, brown, black, and hints of off-white.
